The representative of Ikorodu Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo (OGA), has stated that he has been providing quality representation to his constituents in response to criticism challenging his representation capacity in the last three years that he has been elected to the State Assembly.

Setting the record straight, Hon. Ogunleye said that his representation reflects a first term marked by strategic facilitation, educational advancement, infrastructure advocacy, and grassroots economic empowerment.

Hon. Gbolahan, who was reacting to a story published by THE IMPACT titled, ‘lkorodu Residents To Gbolahan Ogunleye: You Have Not Represented Us Well In Last Three Years’, said that he has been engaging and effective in his representation, lawmaking and oversight functions which are his primary duties.

The Media Office of Hon. Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo (OGA), in a response, said that the lawmaker has implemented several projects, programmes and policies without media propagation, adding that he considered them as natural constitutional duties. It was added that all that he has been able to achieve can be verified.

In the statement, Hon. Gbolahan emphasised how he has been exercising his constitutional powers to justify his mandate.

“Honourable Ogunleye has consistently exercised these constitutional functions: He has represented his constituents’ priorities in the Assembly and through stakeholders’ engagements, ensuring that issues such as roads, electricity access, health, and education are elevated to the state level for action.

“He has actively contributed to the passage of significant laws that under pinned social, economic, and environmental development in Lagos State.

“He has overseen and advocated for the inclusion of constituency needs in the state’s planning processes, regularly engaging ministries and state agencies to ensure effective follow-up on projects.

“Through consistent constituency meetings, he has facilitated direct communication between residents and government decision-makers, a key aspect of representative accountability”.

The statement further states that the lawmaker has, through the committee of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), not only been contributing with developments across the state, but also ensuring that Ikorodu fully benefits.

“As the Chairman of the House Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Hon. Ogunleye has been a core part of the 10th Assembly that has passed over 467 resolutions. His committee work has been instrumental in aligning Lagos State’s housing, environmental, and investment policies with global best practices, ensuring that Ikorodu has a seat at the table where “Greater Lagos” is designed”.

The lawmaker’s media said that in the last three years, he has set a “Record of Tangible Achievements (2023–2026)” in the areas of Infrastructure & Energy Access, Education & Youth Empowerment, Economic Interventions & Welfare, Community & Cultural Synergy and Justice & Human Rights Advocacy.

In the area of Infrastructure & Energy Access, it was stated that Hon. Ogunleye has successfully facilitated the construction of 1.7km of interconnected roads in the Owutu axis, including Femi Olasanoye, Dayo Akinyemi, Banjo, and Alhaja Olaribigbe Streets, and also collaborating with the Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) for the continuous patching and rehabilitation of internal roads across the Ikorodu metropolis.

“Hon. Ogunleye, through collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development, facilitated several projects ranging from provision of Power Transformers and Micro Water Schemes.

“Installation of high-capacity transformer for ITELE COMMUNITY, AGA MICRO WATER SCHEME has been delivered, while approval has been secured for transformers to Odogunyan, Erikorodo, Isiwu, Oke-Oko, Oba Sekumade, Agric-Ikorodu Communities.

“Installations will be effected soon, and these will directly improve the ease of doing business for local artisans”, the statement added.

In addition, “Through the facilitation efforts of HON OGUNLEYE GBOLAHAN ADETOKUNBO(OGA), the following communities have benefited from the installation of Solar lights: OLOYE CDA, OBA – OLAIDE CDA, MOJOLAGBE CDA and ELEPE ESTATE CDA. Other CDAs such as: EKITI CDA, AKASOLORI and GOLDEN PARADISE ESTATE CDA Solar light projects are in the pipeline.

“Direct intervention regarding concerns arising from the demolition of houses in Agric, ensuring affected residents’ voices were heard and properly escalated”, the statement stated.

Another critical area that the lawmaker has also been intervening is Education & Youth Empowerment. According to his media team, he has been providing full yearly sponsorship of GCE and UTME (JAMB) forms for indigent students, actively facilitating admissions for qualified constituents into LASU, LASUSTECH, and the School of Nursing.

He has also donated professional table tennis equipment to five primary schools to revive grassroots sports; intervened and facilitated the construction of Odonla Primary School to save the children in the community from commuting daily to Odongunyan to attend classes, supported and collaborated with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in strengthening the education sector.

In terms of Economic Interventions & Welfare, “The OGA Loan Scheme launched a ₦10 Million interest-free loan program, providing vital capital to several market women and distributed ₦50,000 cash grants to 50 indigent women.

He has also provided 3,500 palliative food packs to vulnerable households across the constituency and donated essentials to HOUSE OF CHLOE Motherless Home located at DELE KUTI, EBUTE, to mark his 50th birthday in the year 2024.

“Additional N5m structured support to market women making a total ₦15 Million to further strengthen small-scale enterprise sustainability. Assisted over 100 residents in securing federal government employment opportunities”, the statement further added.

In furtherance of his representation, Hon. Ogunleye, in the aspect of Community & Cultural Synergy, remains a steadfast partner to traditional institutions, providing consistent yearly support for the Magbo, Liwe and Eluku festivals, reinforcing the preservation of Ikorodu’s heritage and maintaining an open -door policy with CDAs, students, youth groups and religious bodies.

“Donated ₦5 million in 2025 to IKODASS to support community development initiatives and IKORODU-OGA DAY CELEBRATIONS, thereby, fostering unity across the Ikorodu Division”.

According to the statement, the lawmaker has also contributed to Justice and Human Rights Advocacy, through participation in legislative intervention efforts that led to the resolution of a wrongful and extra judicial detention case involving a constituent – Mr. Alfred Babatunde Abiodun, demonstrating commitment to justice and protection of citizens’ rights.

While welcoming constructive criticisms, Hon. Ogunleye emphasised his commitment to good governance and sustainable development, adding that, his legislative impact is not only evolving, but something that would be sustained.
